Our Ethos and Values

Foreword:

  • VALUE = the quality (positive or negative) that renders something desirable or valuable

  • ETHOS = the character or fundamental values of a person, people, culture, or movement.

Our Ethos:

Be Monsterful strives to transform our students into passionate and multi-dimensional individuals, who actively work to nurture their abilities in the English language and beyond. We will work together to create a curriculum that promotes both depth and breadth of knowledge, while emphasizing collaboration and support.

Sound judgement and the demonstration of moral fortitude are the foundations of this, honed through such qualities as tolerance, sympathy, self-control, creativity, adaptability, and resilience.

Be Monsterful strives to foster qualities like leadership, teamwork, and intellectual reasoning in its students, preparing them for success in the 21st century. We hope our alumni and current pupils will use their experiences to live life to the fullest and make a positive contribution to their communities.

We encourage Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, and Respect and Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs as core British values.

We are a ‘Rights Respecting School’ where our pupils are nurtured and helped to interact with others, displaying the qualities outlined above.

Core Values:

We will:

  • Place children and students at the heart of everything we do;

  • Place collaboration before competition, working with others for the betterment of all;

  • Develop and support professionals in our own and other academies and schools to establish practice that improves lives;

  • Ensure that all children and adult students and staff make good progress irrespective of their starting point and those young or older people facing disadvantage are lifted from educational poverty;

  • Never do anything to the detriment of learners, staff, or other stakeholders, in a neighbouring community;

  • Adhere to the ‘Seven Principles of Public Life’;

  • Promote environmental awareness and protection locally, nationally and globally.

British Values Alongside Local Ones:

  • Our promotion of British values in school alongside ones in the local community

The UK government first outlined its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy. These values have been continually emphasized since then and are actively upheld in our school today. at our school.

These regulations will be in addition to the Equalities Act, which is applicable to all types of school. Schools are required to demonstrate how they are effectively and meaningfully implementing British values in their work with students.

  • Promoting British values at Be Monsterful

The Department for Education’s five-part definition of British values is:

  • Democracy

  • The Rule of Law

  • Individual Liberty

  • Mutual Respect

  • Tolerance of Those of Different Faiths & Beliefs

At Be Monsterful, pupils will encounter these principles throughout everyday school life.

  • Democracy

The importance of student voices is acknowledged at Be Monsterful; pupil surveys and interviews are held on a regular basis to gather feedback and insight into life at the school. Our students are actively involved in shaping the school's direction, and this contributes to a deeper understanding of democracy among our learners.

  • The Rule of Law

Our pupils will encounter rules and laws throughout their entire lives. We want our pupils to understand that whether these laws govern the class, the school, the neighbourhood or the country, they are set for good reasons and must be adhered to. This understanding of the importance of rules will be consistently reinforced through assemblies and our curriculum.

We provide numerous occasions for students to debate and examine the rationale for laws, enabling them to recognise their significance for their own security. During our courses and classes, we enthusiastically invite members of the local public, including police officers, firefighters and a variety of other individuals, to join us.

We emphasise to our pupils the importance of the rule of law through providing clear explanations and illustrating it with real-life stories.

  • Individual Liberty

At Be Monsterful, individual liberty is highly valued, and at the core of our mission and code of conduct. We recognize that every student is unique, and each student should be free to make their own decisions and express themselves in a way that is respectful and responsible.

In order to support this goal, we invest in resources that enable our students’ individual growth and freedom. We start by providing each student with a safe, supportive, and welcoming learning environment. As part of this, we ensure that our classrooms are student-centered and that teachers are trained to foster an environment of open dialogue and question-asking. This encourages our students to think independently and to explore ideas that are outside of the traditional way of thinking.

In addition to providing a safe and encouraging learning environment, we also offer a variety of extracurricular activities and courses that allow students to explore their interests and passions. We also provide support for our students to take part in activities outside of school, such as internships and volunteer opportunities. We believe that these experiences help students become well-rounded individuals who are prepared for the real world.

Finally, we are committed to providing our students with an education that emphasizes critical thinking and problem-solving skills. We believe that these skills are essential for a successful life and that they promote individual liberty. Our teachers are dedicated to helping students develop their critical thinking skills and to fostering a culture of intellectual curiosity.

By investing in our students, their individual liberty, and their future success, we are committed to providing our students with the best possible educational experience.

  • Mutual respect

Students must have mutual respect for one another to create an ideal learning environment. Respect helps to create a sense of trust and understanding between students and fosters a cooperative atmosphere in which everyone feels safe to express their opinions and ideas. Additionally, when students have mutual respect, they are better equipped to handle inevitable disagreements and conflicts that may arise in their academic journey. Respect also helps to build bridges between students of different backgrounds and cultures. Ultimately, respect is essential for creating an inclusive and equitable learning environment.

  • Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

At Be Monsterful, we provide an inclusive English language School that celebrates and respects all religions and cultures.

We are committed to furthering tolerance through knowledge and understanding. Our English language courses and daily work routine are designed to promote tolerance and help our students gain the knowledge and understanding necessary for them to flourish in a global society.

At our language school, we believe in being tolerant of those of different faiths and beliefs. We allow our students to express themselves without fear of judgement or discrimination, and we strive to create an environment of respect and acceptance. We have a variety of religious and spiritual activities available to students, such as prayer and meditative circles, and we honour religious holidays through designated times for reflection. We also host interfaith dialogue events that promote understanding and communication between students of different backgrounds. Additionally, our school has provided resources and support for students of different faiths and beliefs, such as inviting religious leaders to speak on issues of faith and provide guidance. Examples of this include having a rabbi lead a Shabbat dinner discussion and a Buddhist monk discuss meditation and mindfulness.
